Travel Insurance Pregnant

Travel While You Are Pregnant
First things first. When you are pregnant the very first thing you need to do is make an appointment with your Ob-Gyn or family Doctor and find out how they feel about you traveling. With a green light the next step is finding travel insurance which will cover you. That can be a bit more of a challenge. Most travel insurance companies will view pregnancy as a pre-existing condition and will also label you as ‘high risk’. Now, that said most providers will insure you at least up to 9 weeks before your baby is due. Within 9 weeks you are definitely considered high risk and will probably have a hard time getting any coverage. As with any kind of insurance it’s always vital to read your policy and have a clear understanding of the exclusions particularly around pre-existing conditions. By way of example here’s a Canadian Travel Insurance Pre-Existing Conditions and Pregnancy statement:
Manulife Insurance
Says, you are excluded from coverage if, “Your routine pre-natal care, your pregnancy or childbirth, complications of your pregnancy or childbirth when they happen in the nine (9) weeks before or after the expected date of delivery.”
I find that is a pretty generic statement for most insurers. Some may go to eight weeks but most say nine.
Travel Insurance Pregnancy
I’m Pregnant and traveling to the USA from Canada
Can I get Health Insurance while I’m Pregnant?
I will be 8 months pregnant in March 2008. At the time we are supposed to be in Florida for a holiday we booked months ago. Flying down there is obviously out of the question. What are your thoughts on driving to Florida? Is it even a good idea to be going outside of the country so close to my due date? (We live in Manitoba, Canada – it’s a long drive!) What happens if I did go into labour while I’m in the USA? Would my travel insurance cover all the expenses? Maybe this is a bad idea and we should just cancel our vacation….any advice or words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated! Thx in advance ![]()
Pregnant and Needing a Vacation!
I would check with your insurance to find out what coverage you would have during pregnancy while traveling in the USA. If you are driving, it would be okay, but at 8months you probably aren’t going to want (or have the bladder capacity) to sit in the car for a long ride.
Also, you are going to want to be careful about your travel insurance. Be sure to ask specifically about your pregnancy as a pre-existing condition. If you find any travel insurance deals be sure to read the fine print and make certain you disclose your pregnancy to them prior to buying the policy. If they say they are going to insure you for the trip – get it in writing!
I know this may not sound much like an alternative for a nice warm vacation but you may want to consider a visit to Toronto now. You will be able to take comfort in knowing you are fully covered plus you will be close to some of the finest maternity hospitals in North America. Maybe save your Florida vacation to beat the post partum blues!

Domestic Travel Insurance

If you are in the market for domestic travel insurance then check out the reputable online insurance companies and buy direct because you will make big savings in your premium.
You may be planning on taking a single trip or be someone who travels regularly within Australia or are a company that employs a number of staff who need to travel interstate on a regular basis. Depending on whether it is single insurance, multi trip insurance, or domestic annual trip insurance you will pay a different premium for a different service. Usually the premium is quite low for domestic travel policy as the amount of monetary outlay the insurance company will likely need to release in the event of hospitalization or illness is considerable less that what would be required when traveling overseas, particularly in countries such as the USA where medical costs are extremely high.
The use of discounted domestic travel insurance is a phenomenon that has taken place now that air flights are becoming cheaper and cheaper, especially for domestic flights, and more people are traveling. Greater volume of travelers and the resulting higher demand for domestic travel policy has reduced the overall premium costs to budget and other travelers.
In the past, when traveling domestically, some people considered the cost of illness or accident to be low risk (compared to the premium payable) and opt not to take out a domestic insurance policy. Considering the relatively low cost of domestic travel insurance offered online it is now recommended that anyone traveling take out a policy to cover of illness, accident, loss of income and the like. It is a simple process to get online and compare the domestic travel policy options available to you. You can elect to take out basic cover or a more comprehensive policy which will insure you against not just medical and hospital costs but also a wide range of other activities.
You can tailor the policy to suit your needs – are you planning on hiking through Kakadu National Park? Are you going for surfing lessons at Bondi or are you just going to Melbourne Crown Casino for the long weekend? No matter the domestic destination there is a cheap domestic travel insurance policy for you. Often your plans for your holiday can change so it is also important to shop around for a deal that might take into account your spontaneous holiday desires such as rock-climbing out of town as a break from gambling at the Melbourne Casino. A comprehensive package is usually the best bet for those who know what activities they plan to get involved in and also those activities they may spontaneously decide to do once at the destination.
Online domestic insurance is readily available for families and singles and with some insurance companies the elderly or those with pre-existing medical conditions can also take out cover albeit that the premium you pay may be higher, because of the increased risk of a claim against the insurance company.
There are many cheap insurance policies out there. It is critical that you not only compare cheap insurance but also compare the type of coverage you get for the price. A basic policy with minimum cover will obviously be less than a comprehensive policy that covers many more activities. One last note worth mentioning is the existence of add on insurance. This type of insurance allows you to call your travel insurance company before you take on an extra activity, like skiing, so that you get cover before you hit the slopes.

One Way Travel Insurance
insurance for moving to USA?
Myself and my partner are moving to the USA. We will need travel insurance and some health cover, and although we will both have health insurance with our new jobs, we will need cover for the first month and I am looking to see if I can find a travel insurance policy that provide the cover.
Trouble is, the standard travel insurance I have seen so far assume that we will still live in the UK and that we just want cover for a months ‘holiday’. One way travel insurance seems to stop 24 hours after we land in the USA
Does anyone know of a one way travel insurance that will cover us for the journey and the first months stay
Travel insurance will not cover you if you are migrating to another country. Travel insurance, as the name suggests, is insurance to cover you when travelling, not when settled in a given location.
Have a word with the big UK health insurers to see if they will cover you: AXA, Bupa, Standard Life, PPP.
