What’s the best route from Toronto to LA?

I’m planning a roadtrip to LA in the summer, and I’m trying to find what the best route is.
Mapquest gives me the fastest, but I was wondering if people have any suggestions of more interesting ways to get there, things to see along the way and good places to stop……..
Also, I’m hoping to find safe places where I can park to sleep at night, or else ridiculously cheap motels….

What dates are you looking to stay? I did a quote for mid-April, and one of the closest & cheapest is the Best Western Airport West — 93.51USD per night (there are lots under 100.00USD per night).
