Montreal, Quebec, Canada

What are the differences between living in Montreal or Vancouver?

How do the two cities and life in them differ?I am thinking of going in Feb.Could you get a train or bus from Montreal to New-york?as I will be in Canada for 1 1/2 months and would like to visit NY if possible.

The Winter Olympics will be in Vancouver in February. It will not be the best time to go. Check those dates.
Both are large, interesting, cosmopolitan cities in Canada with lots of fun things to do… and that’s about it for similarities. So there are many, many differences. Here are a few:
Montreal is a French-speaking city. (Some tourists find it unpleasant when some Montrealers will not answer them if they ask their question in English.) Vancouver is English-speaking.
Montreal is very cold in February, with temps well below freezing and it can be snowy and icy. Vancouver has a mild winter, being moderated by the Pacific Ocean. There will likely be a majority of days with temps slightly below freezing, but some days will be balmy. In Feb., Vancouver is likely to have rain or wet snow that melts soon after.
Montreal has hills and a big river. Vancouver has mountains that rise thousands of feet (4000+) directly from sea level. There is a big bay and harbour and fjords, all part of the Pacific Ocean. The downtown is a peninsula almost completely surrounded by water. Vancouver is often listed as one of the worlds most beautiful cities.
If you haven’t been to either, I’d go to Vancouver, but not in mid-February 2010 because of the Olympics.
