Info. (Toronto to Montreal) Gas, Hotel, Attraction
I am planning to go to Montreal from Toronto. I will be driving up there in my Jeep Liberty. I am travelling with 3 people including me.
These are few questions I would like to ask?
1) How much gas (total price considering $1.25/litre) would it take to go from Toronto to Montreal (Jeep Liberty)
2) Any good hotels/motels in or around Downtown (Preferably under $100)
3) What are some attractions? Resturants, Malls, Museums …
My Budget is $700 (everything together – going – staying – enjoying – returning) Is it possible?
Gas won’t be cheap, but if you’re splitting it between 4 people it won’t be that bad. We usually fill up in Toronto, and eventually have to do it again in Cornwall (2003 Toyota Rav 4). That’s about 50 litres to get you to Cornwall.
As for hotels in the budget department I would HIGHLY recommend you stay in the Plateau area, especially rue St. Denis. There are a bunch of cheap hotels available for under 70 bucks a night (be sure to check if they have parking deals too).
I stayed at Hotel St. Denis a few years back and it was one of the coolest experiences I ever had. Expect one star service (you get what you pay for ahaha), but it was very exciting because our room was facing the street and you could see up and down St. Denis which is one of the most interesting streets in Montreal (we actually pushed the beds up against the window so we could sleep to the nightlife). DON’T go to their ‘continental breakfast’, its Costco muffin recycled through the week AHAHAHA.
Go to:
Old Montreal – one of the oldest parts of European North America.
Clubs and Bars – clubs and bars dot the downtown area there is something for everyone from nightclubs pumping the latest house/electronica to pubs where local McGill and Concordia student imbibe.
Swartz – Do not leave Montreal without having some MTL smoked meat.
Rue Ste-Cathine – this area is lined with boutiques and department stores (just make sure you stick to the tourist area, some parts get sketchy at night)
Parc Mont Royal – take a hike through a huge park on top of a hill, you can take great pictures of the entire city (Tam Tam, a drum circle happens every weekend)
Quartier Chinois – not as big as Toronto’s China town, but cool all the same, killer cheap chinese buffet too.
Take the Metro. Its very different than the Toronto Subway.
Just walk around.
