Where to stay in Montreal (for cheap first-timer)?

I have a week’s worth of vacation that I will be spending in Montreal. I’m looking for a place to stay for under $100 a night, and don’t drive (live in NYC). Oh, and I don’t want a hotel that feels cheap, or like a generic hotel.

You can Amtrak to Montreal. Look for places on Rue de Denis. You can walk there or take the underground.
